After my first acupuncture treatment, it felt like my nervous system had been reset. I had become so habituated to the stress in my mind and body that I had forgotten what it was to feel normal. Acupuncture, wasn’t something on my radar at the time, and it was sheer desperation, and the recommendation of a friend, that got me onto the couch. My digestive woes, and the strain of keeping it together whilst suffering in silence, had really paid its toll on me in all realms of my life. I gained such sweet relief from acupuncture, igniting a desire to learn how this ’Voodoo’ worked!
I had always looked for the most efficient means to achieve outcomes in my career up until that point, and acupuncture appealed to those sensibilities. I had managed people and projects in the public and private sectors, streamlining systems, maximising resources, producing elegant prose in reports and proposals. Over time however, it was the softer skills I used that motivated me to get out of bed in the morning: encouraging people to reach their potential, motivating people to dust themselves off and try again. I wanted a job that used the parts of me I liked the most, and so I decided to study acupuncture. I completely fell in love with this wonderful medicine.
The universality of the wisdom that underpins Five Element acupuncture is astounding. It’s simple, elegant, and profound. It understand how different emotions can knot, scatter, sink, raise, or dissolve energy, creating pathology in the body. I like to share this ancient wisdom with patients to help them understand the connection between mind and body. I maintain my own health through heathy eating, exercise, meditation and staying in harmony with nature’s rhythms.
